A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Heavy Rain is now in force for the northeastern and interior parts of Viti Levu from Ba through Rakiraki to Korovou.

The Nadi Weather Office says due to daytime heating, thunderstorms have developed over the inland areas of Viti Levu.

They say it is expected to become severe and affect the northeastern parts of Viti Levu.

The Weather Office says severe thunderstorms may produce heavy rain, which could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas within the next few hours.

Frequent and dangerous lightning strikes can be expected.

People are advised to keep clear of flooded creeks and drains, don't walk, cycle, or drive through floodwaters, unplug electrical appliances and computers if lightning is around or thunders is heard.

Weather Office urges everyone to stay vigilant and continue to monitor weather conditions.

Thunderstorm activity with intense heavy rain and lightning may continue until late afternoon or evening.
