11-year-old Tatila Maivalenisau

It was a proud moment for the Maivalenisau family as they witnessed their daughter scooping the Dux Award during the Suva Methodist Primary School 2023 Annual Prize Giving ceremony today.

11-year-old Tatila Maivalenisau was awarded the Dux Award after scoring the highest marks in Mathematics, English, Elementary Science, Social Studies, i-Taukei Studies and Scripture.

Tatila says she was inspired to become the Dux this year after seeing a friend of hers who was from Vatulele becoming the Dux.

She says she promised her mother that she will become the Dux and she is thankful that she has fulfilled her promise.

Tatila also says she did not expect to be the Dux because the school’s Head Boy is also a smart student and one of her competitors for the award.

She adds that school this year was challenging as she had to go through a lot to accomplish her dream.

The 11-year-old has dedicated her awards to her parents, family and friends for their continuous support.

She adds they she will be attending Dudley Intermediate School next year.

Tatila’s father, Lui Maivalenisau, says investing a lot in the education of children is the best investment a parent could make.

He says he was not surprised to see his daughter collect the Dux Award as he had invested a lot of his time and money in her school work, sports and other activities.

Lui adds that he is thinking about organising a function to celebrate the achievement.
