A man and his wife who sexually exploited two young girls in Nakasi two years ago, will spend 16 years and 10 months behind bars.

The man and his wife were found guilty of a count each of rape and defilement.

The Suva High Court was told the two had obtained the trust and confidence of 12 and 15 year old girls when they came to their place initially with their mother who worked as a housemaid and later by themselves on the couple’s invitation.

The court was further told the husband and wife groomed the two young girls who were not in a position to refuse their preposition to participate in the scandalous sexual activities.

It was also revealed the woman had accompanied both girls to the bedroom where her husband was waiting.

The husband and wife were handed with 17 years imprisonment sentences however the court reduced the actual sentence to 16 years and 10 months as both were in remand for one month and 16 days.
