Hundreds of millions of people expected to enjoy the official opening of the Rugby World Cup tonight

Fans at Tokyo Stadium, along with a worldwide television audience numbering in the hundreds‑of‑millions, are set to be captivated by a truly spectacular and unique opening ceremony as Rugby World Cup 2019 kicks off tonight in Tokyo.

Rugbyworldcup.com reports that combining the ancient with the modern, the opening ceremony will draw on deeply symbolic Japanese cultural references to illustrate the passion, expectation and excitement the people of Japan have for the tournament.

The ceremony will tell the story of rugby’s origins and its arrival in Japan and the blossoming of Rugby World Cup into today’s global showpiece.

The Rugby World cup kicks‑off tonight with hosts Japan taking on Russia at 10.45pm.

Fiji play the Wallabies at 4.45pm tomorrow.

France and Argentina face off at 7.15pm tomorrow while the All Blacks and Springboks clash at 9.45pm tomorrow.

On Sunday, Italy and Namibia play at 5.15pm, Ireland and Scotland face off at 7.45pm Sunday while England clash with Tonga at 10.15pm Sunday.
