Several roads and crossings in Lautoka, Ba and Rakiraki flooded and closed

As heavy rain continues in parts of the country, several roads and crossings in Lautoka, Ba and Rakiraki are flooded and inaccessible.

The Fiji Roads Authority says in Rakiraki Katudrau Crossing, Vatumani Road, Narara 1 Crossing and Narara Road is closed to all traffic.

Saru Back Road, Vaivai Road Irish Crossing, Navula Road Irish Crossing Buabua flats in Lautoka are closed while a single lane of Buabua Road is closed.

Field 4 Road junction in Lautoka and Vunisamaloa Road in Ba are also flooded.

FRA is urging all drivers and road users to exercise caution and avoid affected areas where possible.

According to FRA, Vunisamaloa Road in Ba is flooded and inaccessible, and Varadoli crossing in Ba is also flooded and closed to all traffic.

They say Cemetery Road and Crossing, is closed to all traffic.

FRA adds Koula Road, Marinitawa Road, and Vatuyaka Crossing are closed to all traffic well.

Meanwhile, residents in Vunato Settlement in Lautoka are on alert as continuous heavy rain has resulted in compounds of homes close to the Vunato dump site getting flooded. 

Vunato resident Filomena Ditukana says if the Vaiwai River and Saru Back Road Bridge are flooded, they will have more flood waters in their area by this evening. 

She says the residents are are putting their clothes on top of cupboards and preparing for flooding.

Ditukana also says they are checking with police on the need to move, if the weather worsens.
