The community engagement works conducted by the employees of the Ministry of Health have seen great results as hospitals are now seeing less number of people being admitted for severe leptospirosis cases.

Permanent Secretary for Health Doctor James Fong says there are still reported cases of leptospirosis, but fewer people are admitted for severe sickness.

He says this is because of the community engagement works they have been conducting around the country, mainly in rural areas.

Dr Fong says a lot of people are taking their antibiotics early.

Meanwhile, 41 people have died from leptospirosis in Fiji this year.
