What started as a family visit quickly turned into a medical emergency for 58-year-old Sat Prakash who began feeling unwell and was rushed to a doctor on his holiday trip to Australia.

After several tests, doctors gave him heartbreaking news. He had six major heart blockages of which one was hundred percent blocked, two were ninety percent blocked, and three were eighty five percent blocked.

Doctors in Australia advised him of immediate bypass heart surgery but the cost was too high ($95,000 AUD) and Satya Prakash did not want to burden his daughter and chose not to go ahead with the surgery.

His daughter and son-in-law remained strong and hopeful as they reached out to people and explored every option. Soon, they connected with a medical team at Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH Hospitals) that was ready to help.

Sat Prakash’s reports were shared with a renowned cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr Sanjeev Khulbey who carefully reviewed the case and offered expert guidance.

Dr Khulbey and his team supported the family step by step and their kindness and clarity gave new hope to Sat Prakash and his family as it was a turning point in his journey.

The next challenge was arranging funds for surgery, but help came from all corners of the world. Family and friends from Australia, New Zealand, and America raised the entire $30,000 sum required and it was a beautiful show of unity and care.

‘’Even though we were far from home, kind people stood by our side. A woman living on rent prepared meals and looked after my family. Her help meant a lot during these difficult days,’’ said Mr Prakash.

The surgery was performed successfully, and Sat Prakash is now recovering and feeling better. He has been happily discharged from hospital after a thorough review by the specialist team.

He was full of praise for the medical team. He also thanked the nurses who gave him inspiration daily while he was admitted.

Sat Prakash expressed deep gratitude to Dr Sanjeev Khulbey and the management and staff of PSH Hospitals for their dedication and skills that gave him a new chance at life.

‘’My special thanks goes to PSH Hospitals’ owner Mr Parvish Kumar who made it possible for us ordinary people to be cured right here in Fiji. He is like my guardian angel,’’ Mr Prakash said. For more information or bookings, send an email to cardiology@psh.com.fj or hello@psh.com.fj
