Health Ministry warns against using homemade bamboo guns ahead of New Year festivities

With the New Year approaching, people are being warned not to use homemade bamboo guns or ‘Dakai Bitu’ in the upcoming New Year celebrations.

This is following three separate incidents early this year where three young children who were operating the bamboo guns during the New Year celebration sustained significant inhalation injuries and burns.

The Ministry of Health says the injuries required prolonged admissions and treatment at the hospitals, and now leave permanent scars on the children.

They are urging members of the public to stop using the bamboo guns and enjoy the festivities sensibly and responsibly.

The Ministry is also urging parents to supervise their children during the festive, and to note that the use of bamboo canons is illegal and can cause significant injuries to users.
