The Health Ministry has recorded 60 quarantine test results of concern from around 700 travellers to the North over the 7-day period from 20th to the 26th of October.

Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong says all 60 people were fully vaccinated and had tested negative prior to travel to the North.

He says from this 60, 10 cases are potentially infectious and are being isolated.

Dr. Fong says home quarantine measures have been activated for their primary contacts.

The Permanent Secretary adds a further 31 cases are considered non-infectious or at very low risk of being infectious while 19 cases were weakly positive however they are waiting for the repeat test results from the Fiji CDC laboratory while these individuals remain under home quarantine.

He highlighted the vaccination coverage for the North is more than 90% for the first dose and more than 75% for the second dose.

Dr Fong says the Northern Medical Team is working with the Commissioner Northern and Ministry of Economy on ration supply for people and family members on restricted movement protocol.

Dr. Fong has also confirmed they will be leading a team to go to the North together with the Community Engagement team from various ministries, on the 2nd of November to help to escalate the 2nd dose coverage, especially in Bua.

86.9% of the adult target population in Fiji and 16,529 children between the ages of 15 to 17 years are now fully vaccinated.

96.3% of the adult target population and 31,211 children have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Since the last update on Monday, Fiji has recorded 50 new cases of COVID-19 of which 35 new cases were recorded on Tuesday and 15 new cases in the last 24 hours ending at 8am yesterday.

The 13 new cases recorded in the North are quarantine cases that are part of the repatriation program for the Northern Division.

There are currently 1,698 active cases.

Fiji has had a total of 52,009 cases since the second wave of the pandemic began in April and 52,079 cases since March last year.

There have been 673 deaths due to COVID-19 in Fiji, with 671 of these deaths during the outbreak that started in April this year.

Fiji has also recorded 563 deaths of COVID-19 positive patients who died from serious medical conditions they had before they contracted COVID-19. These are not classified as COVID-19 deaths.
