Govt has designed the Constitution to hoodwink the people into believing that it would bring democracy - Radrodro

SODELPA MP Salote Radrodro.

SODELPA MP Salote Radrodro says the FijiFirst Government has designed the 2013 Constitution to hoodwink the people into believing that it would bring genuine democracy.

While responding to the President’s opening address, Radrodro says he finds the President’s statement ironical that democracy created under the Fijian Constitution will wither with our complacency but comes alive by public participation.

She says people are not complacent and want true and genuine democracy.

Radrodro says the Government has failed to consult the people and deliberately deny them the opportunity to participate in nurturing and promoting our democracy.

She says for example some members of the Opposition were harassed by police and taken to CID for criticizing Bill No 17 to amend the iTaukei Land Trust Act.

Radrodro says another nagging issue with the 2013 Constitution is the single national constituency.

She says this section has been deliberately designed to disadvantage aspiring candidates from other political parties in standing for the elections.
