Permanent Secretary for Economy Shiri Gounder

Permanent Secretary for Economy Shiri Gounder says the Government is currently assessing the situation regarding Unemployment Assistance in light of the borders reopening as businesses open and people are getting back to work.

When asked by fijivillage on people asking if another $360 Unemployment Assistance will be paid out by the Government, Gounder says they are also closely monitoring Government finances and revenue collections and any further decision on unemployment support will be made after this assessment.

Gounder also says as announced in the 2021/2022 National Budget, the Government had budgeted for 2 rounds of $360 Unemployment Assistance.

He says these two rounds of the $360 assistance has already been disbursed to cater for the 6 months from August 2021 to January 2022. The second payment was made in early November.
