As a Rugby loving nation, golf in Fiji may not enjoy the prominence and passion it deserves, but golf in Fiji is certainly on the rise, among our own people as more and more golfers around the world both professional and amateur are coming to our islands to play in such tournaments like the Fiji International.

This was highlighted by the President Jioji Konrote at the closing of the 2017 Fiji International Golf Tournament at the Natadola Championship Golf Course.

Konrote adds that he is convinced that in years to come there will be more locals who will be participating.

The President also highlighted that it was great to see many fans enjoy top class professional golf in Fiji.

He says that the tournament has been eventful and challenging for the competitors and wonderful to watch by the many golf fans both locally and internationally through its worldwide television coverage.

Konrote congratulated the competitors and commended Vijay Singh, Natadola Golf Course Superintendent Steve Lalor and their hardworking team in their work in re‑developing the course.

The President also presented the 2017 winner Jason Norris.

Australian Norris said the win was the biggest win of his 21‑year golf career at the Fiji International.
