Vodafone Fiji's Head of eCommerce Shailendra Prasad

Vodafone Fiji's Head of eCommerce Shailendra Prasad is urging Fijians to get out of Viber and use WhatsApp as Viber is a vulnerable third party social app.

While speaking at the National Scams Awareness Week at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Prasad says when people download the Viber app, it will ask them for their 6 digit one-time password (OTP) code which can be received through a text message or through an automated call from Viber.

Prasad says what most people do not know is that when that call comes through, the last six digits of that 10 digit number is the OTP code.

He says people need to know about the risks and security elements built into an app, adding that what people download is not up to the network providers because it is their personal phone.

The National Scams Awareness Week continues tomorrow.
