Rewa Province representative, Ratu Ilisoni Vuidreketi

Rewa Province representative, Ratu Ilisoni Vuidreketi says the Great Council of Chiefs should look at ways in developing the lives of everyone, especially the iTaukei people.

He says when we look back at how the GCC was, people did not care about it because it was disbanded.

He says now that it has been reinstated, there are some good initiatives being discussed but it comes with the challenges faced in this modern day.

Ratu Ilisoni says the vision of the GCC is to look after everyone’s interest in Fiji.

The Rewa representative on the GCC says they have also raised the issue of education and unemployment because looking at these challenging times, education is the key to the development of Fijians.

He adds that one of the top priorities should be poverty and this was raised from the statistics released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

Ratu Ilisoni says the GCC will never overstep the mark when it comes to the government's work to develop the iTaukei but they will work with the government for the betterment of everyone.

The GCC meeting is currently underway on Bau Island.
