The further delay in the construction of the MHCC Tower in Suva is due to the final remediation works that was supposed to be done by the contractors and consultants from New Zealand, China and Australia.

This has been highlighted by the Director of the Carpenters Pte Limited, Daniel Whippy who says that due to the COVID 19 pandemic, these works are on hold.

Whippy says the Stop Work Order is still in place and will be uplifted when remediation works are completed and certified by the Suva City Council and other approving authorities.

Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar had earlier highlighted that SCC intends to get foreign independent engineers to assess the MHCC Tower and give a confirmation whether the construction can continue.

Kumar stated that the structural reinforcement was required on the MHCC Tower and MHCC was working with engineers from abroad on this.

They will also be submitting engineering plans in relation to strengthening the structures of the tower.
