Frustrated Byrne to clarify with World Rugby on decision by TMO to deny Maqala’s try

Frustrated Byrne to clarify with World Rugby on decision by TMO to deny Maqala’s try

Fiji Water Flying Fijians coach Mick Byrne

After the Fiji Water Flying Fijians came close to beating the Wallabies over the weekend, coach Mick Byrne says he will need to clarify with World Rugby about the try that they were denied when the Television Match Official ruled Wallabies winger Harry Potter had stepped into touch before the ball was turned over by the Flying Fijians leading up to Sireli Maqala’s try.

The decision proved too costly for the Flying Fijians as they went down fighting 21-18 after the Wallabies scored a try in the dying stages to steal the win.

Byrne says he just needs to clarify with World Rugby, because during the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific this year, the Brumbies got a try taken off them after going back 19 phases.

He says he did not know now we can go back to opposition possession as well, but he will just get clarity on it.

Byrne says he feels for the players as they did everything they could in the first half to do what they needed to do.

Byrne further says numbers were against them, but they came in at half-time, regrouped, and came out in the second half to do a job.

He says the players did really well, but it is a gut punch.

Meanwhile, the Flying Fijians will take on Scotland at 3pm this Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
