Team USA Men’s Rugby 7s coach Mike Friday is really buoyant about the chances that his team has at the Paris Olympics 7s which kicks off tomorrow.

Friday says while it is going to be an uphill battle for them in the pool play, especially having Fiji and France in the same pool, he is confident that his team is fit to overcome this task.

He says his side is young and athletic and they have beaten Fiji and France twice each in recent times, so anything can happen.

He adds they are one of those teams that the top two or three teams want to avoid knowing they are aggressive, physical and fit.

Friday says their goal is simply to get a medal of some sort.

He says it is not unrealistic to hope for at least bronze or maybe more if the breaks go their way and they win a few crucial moments, but that’s also about managing mistakes and errors down to the absolute minimum.

The no-nonsense coach says it is a fierce and brutal environment and the matches will be close, so those little moments are so key.

The USA will play France at 2.30am tomorrow in their first pool match, they will then take on Fiji at 6.30am tomorrow before playing Uruguay at 1am Friday in their final pool match.

The Men’s quarter finals will kick off at 7am Friday. There will be a break on Saturday for the official opening of the Paris Olympics 2024 before the competition resumes on Sunday. The semi finals will kick off at 1.30am Sunday, and the final will be at 5.45am Sunday.
