FIFA World Cup defending champions France survived a early scare against Australia as they won their first match 4-1 this morning in Group D.

Australia stunned everyone in the 9th minute as Craig Goodwin scored the first goal of the match until France made a comenback through Adrien Rabiot and Olivier Giroud who scored a goal each as they led 2-1 at halftime.

The tournament favourites continue their dominance through Kylian Mbappé who scored in the 68th minute while Giroud added his second in the 71st minute.

In games played earlier, Saudi Arabia created an upset as they beat Argentina 2-1.

For this win, King Salman of Saudi Arabia has declared a public holiday tomorrow to mark the national team's stunning upset.

In other matches, Denmark drew with Tunisia nil all while the game between Mexico and Poland ended up in a nil-all draw.

Tonight, Morocco will face 2018 runner up Croatia.

Tomorrow, Germany will take on Japan at 1am, Spain will face Costa Rica at 4am, Belgium will take on Canada at 7am while Switzerland will meet Cameroon at 10pm.
