Five shops have been destroyed in a fire at Labasa Town today.

Labasa resident, Paul Jadu Ram says it's a big loss for the businesses and the people of Labasa.

He says it will take time to rebuild and this will result in people not being employed.

Ram, whose brother ran one of the shop that was destroyed, says the cost of damage is approximately more than $1 million.

He adds they will rebuild their shop.

Ram also acknowledged the quick action from the National Fire Authority that contained the fire before it spread to other shops.

Ashwin Ajay Prasad who works at Value City says the fire started around 10 this morning from Kwang Tong restaurant and now it has spread to other shops.

Meanwhile, the NFA has finally managed to put out the fire.

We have sent questions to NFA and are awaiting for their response.
