As the registration for government’s food assistance program ends this hour, food ration distribution continues in the Suva/Nausori lockdown areas.

The Ministry of Economy aims to assist 12,000 families however, they have also noted that some families are giving more than one request through the 161 helpline.

Ministry of Economy Coordinator Kamal Gounder says they are currently in the process of cleaning up their data because they are receiving requests from families who have already been assisted as other members are applying using different numbers.

He says as of this morning they assisted more than 6,000 families while they will soon release details about the total number of families assisted.
