Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that alert level settings across the country will remain until 11.59pm on September 16

There are five new cases of coronavirus in New Zealand with three in the community and the other two are imported cases discovered in managed isolation.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that alert level settings across the country will remain until 11.59pm on September 16.

Three community cases have been linked to the current Auckland August cluster – the biggest New Zealand has had.

Two cases include children under the age of 9 and are family members of previously reported cases who flew from India on August 23.

The total number of active cases is 112. New Zealand’s total number of Covid-19 cases is 1,413.

A total of 82 people linked to the current outbreak are currently in the quarantine facility – this includes 59 people with the virus and their family members.

Six people are in hospital with the virus and two are in intensive care units since Friday.

More than 9,900 tests were processed yesterday, bringing the total number of tests processed to 797,990.

Ardern says the Auckland cluster remains “contained” but there have been 30 community cases since the region moved into alert level 2.5.

Ardern says there would be an increased police presence in Auckland and places such as bars and restaurants.
