For the first time a woman has graduated from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Engineers Regiment 1/24 Trade Training School.

While officiating at the graduation yesterday, Commander Land Force Brigadier General Onisivoro Covunisaqa says they are the first TTS course to have a female graduate, and though small in number, it is quite a significant achievement not only for engineers but for the RFMF as a whole.

While congratulating the recipients for their resilience and dedication throughout the one year of training to become qualified engineers, he says he know that just last year, they went through their basic training at the Force Training Group in Nasinu, and have completed another part of their training to become engineers of the RFMF.

Brigadier General Covunisaqa highlighted the purpose of the establishment of the TTS and quoted the former Fiji Prime Minister and former President, the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, in his speech during the opening of the TTS complex in 1994, who said that “the school aimed to give young men training and a purpose for their benefit and provide men for Fiji's needs.”

He says they can all agree that this aim was well archived by the 36 sappers and is encouraging them to keep improving themselves to become not only better at what they do but also better soldiers and sappers as well.

The Commander also reminded them to closely follow and adhere to the customs and traditions of the RFMF Engineers Regiment.

He also thanked the parents, guardians, relatives, and close friends for their support in allowing their sons and daughters to be part of these noble institutions.
