Fire that destroyed 3 buildings in Rakiraki town contained

Firefighters have managed to contain the fire that destroyed three buildings in the main street of Rakiraki town.

The buildings that were destroyed are A. Gafoor Restaurant and 7 shops in two buildings which is owned by George Shiu Raj.

The buildings which belongs to George Shiu Raj are a computer shop, two barber shops, a phone accessories shop, a tailoring shop, a dairy shop and Ba Motor Parts.

Ba-Fire

National Fire Authority says seven fire trucks were deployed to the scene to contain the fire. Restaurant owner Azmat Ali says he has lost everything in the fire and has sustained a loss of more than $700,000.

He says the fire started at about 9.30 this morning in the kitchen when a gas stove exploded.

Ali says the restaurant was 40 years old and was opened in 1975.

He says there are 10 members in his family and for now they will stay at their relative’s house.
