Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says his primary goal is to restore Fiji's position on the global stage as friends to all and enemy to none.

While updating Parliament this morning on his ten-day trip to China, Rabuka says the bilateral relationship Fiji has with China is founded on mutual respect and cooperation reaffirming support for the One China Policy, and enhancing their relationship since the establishment of their diplomatic ties 49 years ago.

Rabuka met with the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Rabuka says fortifying each nation's sovereignty, security and prosperity are the principles that guide the leadership of the meeting.

He expressed his admiration for China’s achievements and growing influence highlighting the strong relationship between the two countries.

Rabuka says the discussion involved the need for the two nations to leverage their strengths to deepen their ongoing partnership in infrastructure development, agriculture, fisheries, education, sports, tourism, poverty reduction, and other areas within the framework of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, in order to promote shared development.

Rabuka highlighted Fiji’s commitment to regionalism through the implementation of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent which will leverage our strengths in areas of common challenges such as climate change, preservation of our oceans, and conflict resolution.

He recognized China’s support for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through the Global Development Initiative, which includes the construction and upgrade of the 82km Vanua Levu Road Upgrading Project.

Opposition Member of Parliament, Inia Seruiratu says the bilateral meeting between Fiji and China was a positive move and thanked Rabuka for meeting the Chinese President because China stood by Fiji during the difficult times, he hope for more collaboration between the two nations.
