A formidable Fijiana 7s team will take part in the Olympic Games this month in Japan with Rusila Nagasau appointed as captain.

Coach Saiasi Fuli has retained five players that participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics Games with three included in the 12 member team and two as travelling reserves.

They are Nagasau, Rejieli Daveua, Viniana Riwai, Lavenia Tinai and Ana Maria Roqica.

Fuli says two of their key players Vani Buleki and Luisa Tisolo were not considered due to serious injuries sustained during the Oceania 7s.

He says a majority of the other players have been a part of the World Rugby Women’s 7s Series while Sesenieli Donu, Reapi Uluinasau and Laisana Likuceva are the newcomers in the squad.

The Fijiana side is in Pool B with Canada, France and Brazil in the Rugby 7s Olympics competition that will be held from the 26th to the 31st of this month.

The top two teams in each pool, plus the two third-placed teams with the highest point totals will qualify for the quarterfinals.

24 teams will take part in the Tokyo Olympics, 12 in each of the men’s and women’s tournaments.

The fixtures will be released next week.
