The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team started their Cape Town 7s campaign beating Great Britain 19-10 in a tough encounter.

Lavena Cavuru scored the first try from a quick tap.

Megan Jones of Great Britain was sin binned in the 4th minute and Ana Maria Naimasi quickly capitalized, slipping through the defense to extend Fiji’s lead to 12-0 at half-time.

In the second half, Great Britain hit back immediately through a turnover ball and scoring through Emma Uren.

Fijiana responded seconds later after an off load to Ana Maria Naimasi unlocked the defense, scoring her second try of the match.

Poor discipline from the Fijiana saw them giving away a penalty leading to Isa Norman-Bell slipping away to score Great Britain’s second try.

Fijiana however managed to hold off Great Britain till the final minute.

The Fijiana will play their second pool match at 3:30am tomorrow morning against Brazil and will later face New Zealand at 11:03pm tomorrow night.

In earlier matches France drew with Canada 19-19 and USA beat Japan 19-14.

The Womens cup quarterfinals will kick off at 3:44am on Sunday, the cup semifinals begin at 9:24pm on Sunday and the cup final will be played at 5:56am on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways men’s 7s play their first pool match 5:35am against France tomorrow morning.
