A key highlight of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s visit to the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting will be the presentation of the “Ocean of Peace” declaration.
This outlines his vision for regional unity, stability, cooperation, prosperity and security.
The meeting will commence tomorrow in Honiara, Solomon Islands, and Rabuka hopes the declaration will receive broad support from Pacific leaders.
This annual gathering brings together leaders from across the region to discuss pressing issues, develop collective responses, and advance their shared vision for a resilient Pacific—anchored on peace, security, social inclusion, and prosperity.
Fiji’s participation in the forum reaffirms its commitment to regional action on climate justice, sustainable ocean management, security, and economic resilience.
The Prime Minister says Fiji’s foreign policy position of ‘family first Pacific regionalism’ is key to its approach on matters concerning the region.
He says Fiji stands ready to work with its brothers and sisters across the Blue Pacific to ensure that the ocean remains not just the greatest resource, but also a source of peace and stability for generations to come.
Team Fiji will include the Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Minister for Information, Lynda Tabuya, and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka will serve as Acting Prime Minister while Rabuka is away.
