Fiji has been recognised for its outstanding commitment to biodiversity protection through its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2020–2025.
The Fiji Government has also announced that the country has received an international medal from Reverse the Red.
Reverse the Red is a global initiative led by the International Union for Conservation of Nature that honours nations aligning their conservation priorities with the global goal of reversing species decline and ecosystem loss.
Fiji’s NBSAP provides a strategic roadmap for safeguarding unique flora, fauna, and ecosystems by focusing on community partnerships, species recovery, invasive species management, and sustainable use of natural resources.
Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Mosese Bulitavu says Fiji’s leadership and collaboration among government agencies, communities and civil society have made this possible.
He says the award reinforces that biodiversity is central to Fiji’s identity, resilience, and sustainable development, and highlights the importance of continuing to strengthen action across all sectors.
