The physiotherapist of the Digicel Fiji football team, Nishant Kumar, was honoured with a token of appreciation by the Vanuatu media for being the first medical respondent in saving the life of a little boy who was severely injured in a road accident in Port Vila on Tuesday.

The token of appreciation was presented at half time of the Solomon Islands vs New Caledonia clash in the MSG Prime Ministers Cup group match at Korman Stadium.

According to the Daily Post Vanuatu, the Fiji football team are being hailed as heroes after they sprang into action to save the little boy following an accident in Stade. The Fijians were returning from training at Stade Centrale when they saw the little boy got hit by a bus.

When Daily Post arrived at the scene, the boy was still lying on the road and was being treated by Fiji team physiotherapist Nishant Kumar and assisted by the Fijian players.

Kumar put on a neck brace around the injured boy’s neck and put him in the recovery resuscitation position with his head tilted to the side, later on a few of the players carried the boy into the team bus to drive him to the hospital when the Pro Medical ambulance arrived on the scene and the paramedics put him into the ambulance where he was put on oxygen and they managed to stabilise his condition before driving him off to hospital.

Team Fiji manager Anushil Kumar told Daily Post that at that very moment, the team’s priority became attending to the little boy right there.

He says their bus was not moving at the time of the accident and their players just ran out of the vehicle, some stopped the traffic while a few attended to the little boy.

During their team’s devotion, the Fiji team remembered the little boy in their prayers.
