Fiji activist Ratu Eroni wins Franco-German Human Rights Prize 2024

Ratu Eroni Ledua Dina receives the Franco-German Human Rights Prize 2024

Ratu Eroni Ledua Dina, an esteemed activist and LGBTQI rights advocate from Fiji, has won the Franco-German Human Rights Prize 2024.

Ratu Eroni is a prominent transgender activist, who has dedicated his life to advancing the rights of LGBTQI individuals and improving access to mental health support.

Ratu Eroni says he has been representing so many people who have been fighting for human rights.

Ratu Eroni says the work must continue noting that such recognition is only possible through partnership.

The French Ambassador to Fiji, Julie Le Saos, highlighted the unwavering support of France and Germany for LGBTQI rights, both domestically and internationally.

Saos says they understand that equality remains a significant challenge but the voices of LGBTQI individuals matter.

German Ambassador to Fiji Andreas Prothmann acknowledged Ratu Eroni’s efforts, stating that the award recognizes her work within the LGBTQI community and helps protect against negative stereotypes and discrimination.

Prothmann also acknowledged the various initiatives led by Ratu Eroni, particularly those focused on offering psychological support to younger transgender individuals.
