The Fiji Outrigger and Hibiscus Committee came together this morning to hold exhibition matches along the Suva foreshore as a buildup towards their Junior Regatta on the Fiji Day weekend.

Takia Outrigger Canoe Club Vice President, Mue Bentley Fisher says they are here today for Exhibition V6 Races in the margins of the Hibiscus.

Fisher says they are very grateful to FMF and the Suva City Council for supporting their exhibition regatta, bringing together the Suva teams to showcase their sport to the public.

She says today they are mostly doing sprints, so 250 and 500 metres for the juniors, and 1000 metres for the Open and Masters teams.

Fisher says today they have three clubs participating, and they are Takia, USP, and Taf’aga.

The Vice President says today’s goal is really to come together and showcase the sport, and they thought it was a good opportunity with Hibiscus and members of the public right on the foreshore to witness how their regatta is held.

Paddlers and their families were out in numbers this morning to support their favourite clubs.
