The Fiji Men’s Basketball side made it 2 wins from 2 at the Pacific Games 2023 after beating Tonga 81-67 last night.

Fiji led from the first quarter till the final whistle but the Tongans never backed down as they put up a great fight against a determined Fijian side.

Fiji’s Filimoni Waqabaca was named the Player of The Match scoring 15 points with 5 rebounds and 1 steal.

Waqabaca acknowledged his team’s performance and said they executed well against a very tough Tongan side.

He says it was fun playing alongside players who bring a lot of experience into the team and it just makes things easier for the team.

Waqabaca thanked everyone for the support and is looking forward to their next game against New Caledonia.

Fiji will take on New Caledonia at 4.45pm this afternoon in their last pool match.

The Men’s qualifying finals will begin at 3.30pm tomorrow, the semi final will start at 6pm Friday and the final will be at 5.30pm Saturday.

Meanwhile, the women’s basketball quarter final will begin at 1pm tomorrow with Fiji still yet to determine their opponent.

The semi finals will begin at 12pm Friday and the final will be at 3pm Saturday.
