Our goal this year really is to make the podium says Team Fiji Men’s Volleyball manager, Myron Williams as they face defending champions Tahiti tonight.

This is because Fiji are an unseeded team after not being a part of the last two Pacific Games.

Williams says coming in as the underdogs is a good thing for the team as they do not have a target on their back and it is humbling for the boys.

He says their preparations have been going on for months where they picked an extended squad, and finally trimmed it down to the final 13.

The Team manager says from their end the coaching and management of Fiji Volleyball, they have done all they can to prepare the boys.

Williams says of course, they are going in very optimistic, but everyone wants to win and they like playing the toughest first.

Team Fiji Men’s Volleyball last medalled in the event in a Pacific Games in 1999 winning silver having never won a gold medal in the sport at the Pacific Games.

Fiji play Tahiti at 8 tonight.

In their other pool games, tomorrow Fiji will meet American Samoa at 12pm and face Tuvalu at 5pm Monday and play Papua New Guinea on Tuesday at 5pm.
