More students who have been severely affected by the recent cyclone are expected to be assisted with textbooks after the Ministry of Education today received 106,000 textbooks donated by the Fiji Association in Auckland to the New Zealand Embassy.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar says when they visited schools and met with teachers, one of the requests were library and textbooks as it was damaged during the cyclones.

Akbar says this assistance has come on time and students who will receive these books will undoubtedly be thankful.

While handing over the donation, Acting New Zealand High Commissioner Michelle Podmore says they are thankful to the Association for donating the educational materials that will complement classroom teaching and support a student with access to high-quality educational materials.

Association Spokesman Dr Satendra Singh says they hope teachers and students will utilize the books and benefit from the practical resource materials.

Singh says the educational materials are in a range of subjects including English, Accounting, Mathematics, Biology, Science and Physics.

The Association made a similar contribution in 2017 following Tropical Cyclone Winston.

The total cost of the educational materials is NZ $80,000.
