Father shares son’s remarkable recovery after life-saving heart surgery

Savenaca Kubukawa, the father of 10-year-old Usaia Kubukawa, who received a new life after his surgery at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital in Nasese, could not control his emotions as he witnessed his son's recovery.

He says this will be a testimony he will share with everyone because his son had a hole in his heart.

Savenaca says the family only came to know his son's condition when a team from the Sai Prema Foundation conducted a heart screening in Vunisea in November last year.

Usaia is from Natumua Village in Tavuki, Kadavu.

Savenaca says when he received the news about his son's condition and got to know that free heart surgery was available at Sai Prema, he did not hesitate and immediately agreed to the surgery for his well-being.

He also highlighted that over the years, Usaia did not eat much, but they never realised it was a sign of a heart condition.

The 42-year-old urges parents and guardians to seek medical attention if they notice signs of slow growth in their children, especially at the Sai Prema Foundation, where they can receive the proper check-up.

He adds his son's story will serve as a testimony to everyone, proving that with God, nothing is impossible.

Meanwhile, two other children have also been discharged from the Hospital.

The gift of life certificate was presented to the children and their families by Communications Fiji Limited Chair, William Parkinson.
