Farmers must have buyers for their produce - Gavoka

Farmers must have buyers for their produce - Gavoka

SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka.

Finding buyers and at the right price for our agricultural produce is the surest way of motivating people to farm the land according to SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka.

Gavoka agrees that agriculture is largely untapped and has limitless possibilities for Fiji.

However he has also highlighted that most of the land lies idle, claiming that this is because the farmers are not sure that what they grow will have a buyer paying the right price.

Gavoka says food security is a global threat and Fiji needs to ensure there is sufficient food for people and also tap the vast potential available for export.

The SODELPA leader is calling on government to step-up, and coordinate dialogue with stakeholders through workshops to confirm the way forward.

Gavoka says farmers must know what they need to produce and the price they will get and this will need to be market driven.

We have sent questions to the Minister for Agriculture on the issue and he is yet to respond.
