Following concerns raised by residents of Nabitu in Sigatoka on bad road conditions, the Fiji Roads Authority says work on connecting roads will begin once works are completed on Kavanagasau Road.

A concerned resident, Abhay Sharma says the road is riddled with potholes and it is very difficult for farmers to take their produce to the market while the Raiwaqa Bridge that leads to Sigatoka Town is very low and is only on two culverts at each end.

Sharma says the bridge gets flooded every time it rains heavily and people have passed away in the past because the sick could not be taken to the health centre as it was flooded.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, FRA says maintenance works are progressively being undertaken on Kavanagasau Road to address identified locations.

They say once works are completed, work will then move to the connecting roads.

FRA says maintenance on Kavanagasau Road is expected to complete next month, weather permitting.

FRA further says for Raiwaqa Crossing, it is a low level structure, which gets flooded during heavy rain period.

They say crossing replacement is currently part of their Forward Works Programme for the next 10 years.
