Leaders of the Fiji Labour Party, Freedom Alliance and Unity Fiji today took the first step towards forming a united front for the 2022 general elections by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to work together.

In a joint statement issued today, the three leaders, Mahendra Chaudhry, Jagath Karunaratne and Savenaca Narube, say the move was in response to the growing call from the people for the Opposition to unite to contest the next elections.

They have agreed to establish a co-ordinating centre to spearhead the work of getting the other three opposition parties to join hands.

The other three parties are SODELPA, the National Federation Party and People’s Alliance.

Chaudhry, Narube and Karunaratne say they are confident that this initiative will motivate the other Opposition parties to rally together for the sake of their children and grandchildren.

They also say in the joint statement that their way back to economic recovery will be long and difficult.

The leaders say Fiji needs capable and steady hands to steer the country successfully through these challenging times.
