Fiji Labour Party, Mahendra Chaudhry says their Annual Delegates Conference is calling for Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem to be removed from office while Saneem says he will not make any comments on this.

As part of their Party resolutions, the Conference has acknowledged the initiative taken by Opposition political parties for calling on the Chairman the Constitutional Offices Commission to appoint a Tribunal under Section 137 of the Constitution to investigate Saneem for alleged misbehaviour.

The Conference has expressed concern that as the Chairman of the Commission, the Prime Minister has not acknowledged or responded to the written request for the appointment of the Tribunal which was made more than three months ago.

They are also concerned that the nominees of the Leader of Opposition have not raised this issue in the recently held meetings of the Constitutional Offices Commission.

The Conference believes that there is sufficient cause in the interest of ensuring a free and fair election that Saneem’s alleged misconduct in office be dealt with in accordance with the requirements of the law.

They have directed the Party to take appropriate legal action to resolve the matter in the interest of justice, fair play and the conduct of free and fair general elections.

Saneem says he will not make any comments.
