Staff and executives of Mechanical Services Limited as they celebrated Fiji’s 50 years of independence.

It was a proud moment for more than a hundred staff and executives of Mechanical Services Limited as they celebrated Fiji’s 50 years of independence.

Managing Director Shiv Sharma says it was important for them to celebrate this occasion in a grand way despite the COVID-19 pandemic as a sign of solidarity and positivity.

Sharma says Fiji has come a long way in the last 50 years in terms of improvements in infrastructure, education and medical services.

An employee of the company, Hemant Kumar says he still remembers the day Fiji gained independence 50 years ago as a 11-year-old boy.

Kumar recalls there were a lot of activities organized in his school in Daku, Labasa on 10th October 1970 to mark the occasion and every student was given a bottle of juice and a Fiji flag.

While officiating at the event, Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Vijay Nath says Fiji has faced challenging times over the years but we have come out stronger because of our unity.

Nath says we should all be proud to have set a pace of national development unmatched in the Pacific.
