In a bid to address the issue of pending investigations in the Fiji Police Force, the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has come up with the initiative to bring in some experienced ex-police officers to assist their investigations team, which they are in the process of finalising.

Tudravu says he can admit that there are a lot of pending investigations and parts of investigations are currently being undertaken.

He says the process that is currently being undertaken is for them to fast-track all these court cases and other cases and have it resolved.

Tudravu says all these investigations have been long overdue, but the resources that they have are also limiting them from what they are supposed to be doing.

He says they are trying their best given what they have and their CID department is looking into all these court cases and major cases that need to be investigated thoroughly.

When asked what resources they are lacking that is limiting them, Tudravu says it is their manpower issue.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad had earlier stated that the Coalition Government has increased the budget for the Police Force from around $183 million to $226 million in the recent budget, which is an increase of $43 million in 2 years.

Professor Prasad says they are also now funding a total of 5,456 police officers and 100 civilians in the Fiji Police Force, and that is an increase of over 600 positions in the last 2 years.

He adds that the Government has also invested in new infrastructure like the 3 new Police Stations in Nadi, Lautoka and Nakasi costing over $100 million.
