The European Union Delegation to the Pacific came together in numbers at Novotel, Lami to celebrate Europe Day and also commemorate 75 years of the historic Schuman Declaration, which sets Europe on a path of peace and prosperity.
The Europe Day reception, attended by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and wife Sulueti, brought together an array of cultural performances, culinary delights and engaging activities that brought the community together in a spirit of shared values and cooperation.
EU Ambassador to the Pacific Barbara Plinkert says the European Union has come to be known as a peace project which has evolved in size and depth over the years.
She says partnership, economic integration, and cooperation are therefore key principles not only within their borders but also worldwide.
Plinkert says they have learned that even when faced with greater challenges, standing for unity in diversity and working jointly within EU and with their partners works best for the benefit of all.
She adds cooperation and partnership is what they stand for even when the world is changing rapidly and is becoming more fragmented.
The EU Ambassador says her message this Europe Day is that they are determined to remain reliable, consistent, predictable and principled partner to Fiji and the Pacific.
The event included traditional music and dance from the VOU Fiji.
