The Fiji Mine Workers Union and people from the Vatukoula community have expressed their appreciation to the government after the Minister for Employment, Agni Deo Singh visited them regarding the long pending issue of the 1991 Vatukoula Gold Mine workers’ strike.

The Union President, Josefa Sadreu says this long pending matter has affected workers and their families resulting from the 1991 strike and has acknowledged the ministry for revisiting them and having further discussions on the issue.

The Minister says they fully understand the sentiments, discomfort, hardships, and emotional trauma that they have experienced in the last 33 years, and they want to resolve this issue.

Singh assures the Vatukoula community that they will address this matter no more than 33 years.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary for Employment, Maritino Nemani says they are committed in ensuring that their actions to resolve this long outstanding matter is set on the foundation of good faith and principles of humanity.
