Education Ministry working closely with WAF to ensure tanks are filled before water shutdown

The Ministry of Education has confirmed that they are working closely with the Water Authority of Fiji to ensure that water tanks in schools within the larger Lautoka and Nadi areas are filled up before school starts tomorrow.

Education Ministry says that their intent is to ensure that all schools in Nadi and Lautoka remains open from tomorrow.

The Water Authority of Fiji says they have placed water tanks in schools, hospitals, hotels and at the Nadi Airport while 63 water trucks are carting water to areas in need.

Thousands of residents living within the larger Nadi and Lautoka areas are facing water supply disruptions till next Wednesday.

Water Authority says that this disruption is a result of an emergency maintenance work that will be carried out at the Nagado Water Treatment Plant.

The work involves the urgent replacement of a Polyjet section of the pipeline from the Vaturu Dam to the Nagado Water Treatment Plant.

Water Authority says that this particular section of the pipeline is leaking and is resulting in large amounts of water being lost.

The maintenance and repair work is expected to be completed by 12pm Wednesday however full restoration of water in affected areas is expected to resume three days after the works is completed.
