Newcastle United stunned Manchester City with a 2–1 victory this morning, powered by two goals from Harvey Barnes that denied Pep Guardiola’s side a golden chance to close the gap on Arsenal.
It was Eddie Howe’s first Premier League win over Guardiola, and Newcastle’s first league victory against City since January 2019.
After a first half full of chances but no goals, Barnes broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute.
City responded through Ruben Dias, but Newcastle struck again in the 70th minute with Barnes’ second.
The defeat means City remain third, Chelsea are second, and Arsenal sit top of the table.
Newcastle climb to 14th on 15 points, now four clear of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, in other results, Chelsea defeated Burnley 2-0, Nottingham Forest thrashed Liverpool 3-0, Bournemouth and West Ham United settled for 2-2 draw, Brighton beat Brentford 2-1, Fulham defeated Sunderland 1-0 while Crystal Palace beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0.
