One of the 10 finalists in the Domo Vou Talei Music Competition, 17-year-old Natasha Rahiman says it’s an avenue that’s allowed her to express herself, celebrate her passion and given her wings to soar.

Natasha revealed that her originally composed song ‘Not me’ gained her a spot in the competition.

She has been writing songs since primary school but this one is special because it captures how we are always burdened with expectations and how these expectations don’t allow one’s dreams and passion to take flight.

Natasha says music has been her safe space and has always provided her refuge.

The 10 finalists for 2023 have been announced.

Westpac Fiji is the proud sponsor of the Domo Vou Talei Music Competition and joins the Australian High Commission in Fiji, Communications Fiji Limited and Fiji Times to support our vibrant and creative arts community. The competition is a path paved by the Australian High Commission to help guide and nurture musical talent in Fiji and showcase it to the world.

In its second year of sponsorship and grand prize sponsors this year; the competition can be likened to the bank’s Women and Girl’s Education Grant Program, that in 2023 is in its thirteenth year.

Westpac Fiji Chief Executive, Shane Smith says Westpac sees value and importance of investing in and supporting the creative arts space as it fuels big ideas, challenges conventional thinking and opens the doors to innovation.

Smith says while their education grant focus on empowering women, they recognise the need to also support the arts with specific emphasis on local, musical talent.

The winner of the Westpac Grand prize will be announced at the Woodstock Uprising Music Festival on 7th October.
