Djokovic losses in Olympic semifinals.

World number one, Novak Djokovic's bid for an Olympic gold medal has ended after losing to Germany's Alexander Zverev 1-6 6-3 6-1 in the semifinals.

Djokovic had been aiming to complete a 'Golden Slam' after collecting the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon titles.

Meanwhile, Team New Zealand collected three gold medals in the men's and women's rowing events while Australia’s Emma McKeon won gold in the Women's 100 metres Freestyle with an Olympic record time of 51.96 seconds.

There were joyous scenes on the first day of the athletics, where some of the biggest global names shone in their heats before Ethiopia's Selemon Barega surprised everyone winning gold in the 10,000 metres upsetting world record holder Joshua Cheptegei.

China ended day seven of the competition top of the medal table with 19 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze while hosts Japan have 17 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze and the United States have 14 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze.
