Diwali is about happiness and togetherness Taveuni resident Life is short, and happiness is essential, so no one should feel lonely during Diwali, especially when the festival is about happiness and togetherness.
Chitra Singh from Naqara, Taveuni, who runs a small tailoring shop, highlighted this while sharing her Diwali message. While speaking to fijivillage News, she says that a week before the festival, she usually prepares sweets, and on the day of Diwali, she performs puja and visits friends and neighbours.
While she will not be celebrating Diwali this year, Singh emphasised that the festival unites people from all walks of life.
She described Diwali as a celebration of good over evil and a reminder to embrace happiness in life.
Singh says that Diwali is a time to share happiness, smile and forgive others.
She believes that being sad only harms oneself, while spreading joy strengthens bonds and lifts spirits.
She adds that during the festival, her neighbourhood comes alive with lights, colours, firecrackers, and laughter.
Singh has reminded parents to monitor their children while lighting firecrackers.
For Hindus, Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Ram, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshman to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravan.
The festival signifies the triumph of good over evil and is celebrated for five days, with each day marked by different rituals and festivities.
During this time, homes are illuminated with diyas, candles, and colourful rangoli designs symbolising the dispelling of darkness and the welcoming of prosperity.
