The district of Naceva in Kadavu will soon have its nursing station upgraded to a health centre.

This has been confirmed by the Minister for Health and Medical Services Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete when he visited the station.

The Soso Nursing Station caters for the 12 villages in the district and surrounding settlements including a primary school and a youth training centre.

While addressing the villagers, Doctor Waqainabete said that the upgrade will ensure that services rendered will be on par with that of the Vunisea Hospital and it is part of the Government’s focus to bring services closer to the people.

He says the equipment for the Health Centre will arrive as soon as next week and the staff of the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Supplies will be tasked to move in and install the new equipment.

The Health Minister says this will bring the standard of service up a notch and a nurse practitioner will be assigned to the new health centre.

Next month, a new doctor will begin work at the Vunisea Hospital.

The Minister assured members of the tikina that their health centre will be of the same standard as the centres in Kavala and Daviqele.

Doctor Waqainabete says they are doing this to uplift the service they provide and most importantly, they want to do it with compassion for the people, and this is further compounded with the new road that links the tikina to Vunisea and other villages.

The Minister also requested the support of the Vanua for the civil servants, especially the female staff assigned to the outlying stations on the island.

He says 70 percent of the Ministry staff are females and in most health centres the doctors are female and so are the nurses.
