Deans: Nasinu stages impressive second half come back to claim 24-23 win over MGM in Southern zone U18 final

Nasinu Secondary School staged an impressive second half comeback to beat MGM HIgh School 24-23 and claim the Vodafone Southern Zone Secondary Schools Rugby Under 18 title this evening at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

MGM took a comfortable 23-3 lead at halftime after scoring 3 tries, 1 conversion and 2 penalty kicks at goal while Nasinu only managed a penalty kick at goal.

Nasinu tightened their defence in the second half and prevented MGM from scoring any points.

They scored 3 converted tries with the winning converted try coming in at the stroke of fulltime to break the hearts of the MGM Brigade.

Meanwhile, Marist Brothers High School bundled Suva Grammar School out of the Vodafone Super Deans Under 18 competition after claiming a close 17-15 win in the 3rd place playoff this afternoon.

In other matches today, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School edged Marist Brothers High School 12-10 to win the under-14 title, Suva Grammar School beat Marist 25-22 to claim the under-15 title while Marist scooped the under-16 grade after thrashing Grammar 23-7.

Marist also claimed the U17 title after beating Nasinu 35-17 while Naitasiri Secondary School defeated Nasinu 21-5 to scoop the U19 title.

In the Weet-Bix Raluve competition, Naitasiri Secondary School won the under 16 title after beating Nasinu Secondary School while Lomary Secondary School defeated Nasinu Secondary 3-0 to claim the under-18 title.
